Trendy Historic Stay at Moda Hotel in Vancouver

March 12, 2013  |  traveldudes.org

Location isn’t the only thing that makes Moda Hotel in downtown Vancouver, B.C. a prime accommodation when visiting Canada’s west coast.

The quaint rooms, modern, contemporary style and restaurants featured on the property offer travelers a chic and trendy hotel stay.

Moda Hotel is a boutique hotel featuring 67 rooms in the heart of Vancouver’s Arts and Entertainment District.

Built in 1908, the hotel mixes historic charm with modern-day amenities to provide travelers a sophisticated yet cultural experience; mosaic tile lines the lobby’s floor and is throughout each room’s bathroom, original hardwood floors are present in some guest rooms and the design and crown molding outlining the lobby’s ceiling is just some of the 100-year-old architecture noticeable in the hotel.

While the rooms in the four-story building are simple with few amenities, the large windows provide travelers a look out at Vancouver, or to relax, the shades easily block out the busy city. Each room, whether a junior room, deluxe room or Moda suite, takes on a modern flair and features a flat screen TV, coffee maker, complimentary high-speed Internet, wake up service and a small desk with a data port outlet for business travelers.

The private bathrooms in each room of the historic building are small, but the restored showers and tubs and new fixtures give them a clean and comfortable feel. The cozy beds are dressed with luxurious bed linens and will have you sleeping soundly.

A few additional amenities depending on your personal preferences, but offered as part of your room include a mini bar, complimentary local calling and a daily newspaper waiting at the front desk.

Moda Hotel is also pet friendly. Any animal under 75 pounds is welcome in the hotel in designated guest rooms so be sure to ask when making a reservation.
Establishments on the property:

Room service is far from a missed amenity (not offered at the hotel) with the likes of UVA Wine Bar, Cibo Trattoria and Red Card Sports Bar and Eatery all located on the hotel’s property.

Located adjacent to the lobby of Moda Hotel, UVA Wine Bar offers a breakfast and lunch menu made from fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. And by night, a variety of B.C. wines, delicious homemade cocktails or rotating import beers can be paired with charcuterie and artesian cheese plates to snack on. The cosmopolitan feel inside UVA Wine Bar makes it a fancy yet comfortable place, which mixes European flavor with the historic culture of Vancouver.

Cibo Trattoria serves a variety of Italian-inspired entrees for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the entrance is located on the right-hand side of the hotel’s lobby. The artistic dishes use only the freshest ingredients paired with top culinary techniques to have you savoring that last bite. Also, a wide array of handpicked wines is available for you to enjoy.

Red Card Sports Bar and Eatery is the best place to experience the sports culture of Vancouver. With big screen TVs lining the interior and a long bar to grab a seat at and watch hockey or football, this is the place to come and root for your team. The friendly service together with the excitement from the bar patrons makes Red Card a favorite among locals and travelers. Their fresh salads and wood-fire pizzas gives this eatery a touch of gourmet with all the sports bar comfort.

Right next door to the hotel is Viti Wine and Lagers, a downtown liquor store with everything from specialty craft beers to trendy cordials. There might even be a special wine tasting or sake sampling going on right inside that you can become a part of on any given night. Whether you are looking to relax in your room with a bottle of beer or want to grab a specially-made liquor to take with you as a souvenir, Viti WIne and Lagers’s location to Moda Hotel can’t be beat.

The Madonna Room in Cibo Trattoria is a chic private room that can be reserved by any guest for any reason. With a large round table and posh dining room chair to seat up to 10 people comfortably, this is an options for special celebrations, personal get togethers or a place to watch a sporting event. Order off the restaurant’s menu and enjoy the special ambience reserved just for you.

Positioned one block from lively Granville Street and just around the corner from Yaletown, Moda Hotel is in walking distance to some of Vancouver’s popular districts and major attractions. The closest train station is just 3 blocks away, while bus and taxi stops are right outside the hotel to make getting around the city easy and stress-free.

The modern yet historical charm of Moda Hotel give travelers a trendy experience at an economical price. Whether visiting Vancouver for a night, week or looking for a long-term stay, Moda Hotel will fit just about any traveler’s style preference.

Introducing Alan Jeon

We would like to introduce our Revenue Manager, Alan Jeon.

A proud Canadian of Korean heritage, Alan’s extraordinary work ethic stems from the values instilled by his loving parents. A graduate of the hotel administration program at Cornell University and the Educational Institute of American Hotel and Lodging Association, Alan’s skills have benefited many properties with his financial acumen and true love of the hospitality industry. Prior to his position of Revenue Manager at Moda Hotel, Alan gleaned valuable experience as director of operations, duty manager, guest services manager and general manager at a variety of properties in British Columbia.  During his career he has been consistently been awarded with numerous marketing and achievement awards.

A true seeker of knowledge, Alan has many avid interests. Alan’s passion for the hospitality industry and the inherent desire to assist, serve and create the best possible guest experience is reflected in the following quote: “My childhood dream was to become a surgeon. I studied both arts and sciences and truly enjoyed them. I found out that the word “Hospital” and “Hospitality” share the same Latin word “Hospes” which means a “host” or a “guest.” The word hospital simply means a place of hospitality – so I guess I am not so far away from my childhood dream.”

Around Vancouver

When most people think of Vancouver, they think of 2 things..the Canucks and rain. What most visitors to our beautiful city don’t know is that we actually have AMAZING summers..when they eventually show up. Some years it takes a little longer than others. However when summer finally hits, there’s no better place to be soaking up the rays than in Vancouver, and enjoying everything this city has to offer. Here are some ways to spend your time in Vancouver (and hopefully with us) over the next few months:

1) Seawall

We Vancouverites love to stay active, and on hot summer day there’s no better place to do so than the Seawall going through English Bay and Stanley Park. Whether you’re running, walking, blading, or biking – the Seawall is the perfect place to get some exercise  and enjoy some incredible scenery- all while basking in the sun.

2) Kits Beach

Named the 3rd sexiest beach in North America, Kits is the place to go in Vancouver if you’re looking for some serious eye-candy. If you want to fit in with the locals, head down with a yoga mat, grab an Iced Venti Soy Sugar Free Vanilla Latte, and spend the day playing beach volleyball and lounging against the logs. If you’re all beached-out, there are tons of local boutiques, spas, bars and cafes to spend your time in the neighborhood.

3) Grouse Mountain

If you want to get away from the water and see Vancouver from above, head up to Grouse Mountain to experience BC’s wilderness at its finest. With the Wildlife refuge, Ziplines, Skyride, and more – you won’t be at a loss for ways to spend your day. If you’re feeling ambitious, try the Grouse Grind – the ultimate uphill climb that Vancouverites take on every year. For more information visit http://www.grousemountain.com/#activities-guide

4) Outdoor Movies

Over the recent years, more and more outdoor movies have been popping up all over the Lower Mainland in the summer. From classics (like Grease and Top Gun) to new releases, people love sitting in a park, enjoying a picnic, and watching their favorite films on the big screen. Here’s a list of all the outdoor movies in the lower mainland scheduled for 2012, from Vancouver blogger Vancity Buzz: http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2012/05/free-outdoor-movies-vancouver-2012-burnaby-stanley-park-nat-bailey-surrey-langley-delta-richmond-new-westminster/

5) Granville Island

Always a top destination for tourists and locals alike, Granville Island is an ideal spot for eating, drinking, shopping, and checking out local art and theater. Whether you grab fresh cheese, fruit, seafood or baked goods from the market to have a picnic on the grass, spend your time wandering through local artisans goods, Granville Island is a place you could get happily lost in for days. http://www.granvilleisland.com/

We could go on endlessly about things to do and see in Vancouver – like the remarkable variety of great places to eat and drink, or the amazing nightlife! But better yet, we encourage you to come visit us and find out firsthand!  We would love to hear about what you did and loved about our great city!  We hope to see you soon at Moda Hotel.
